20th ANNUAL

ICE FISHING DERBY

Saturday - January 31, 2009

POSTPONEMENT DATE: February 28,2009

Weigh-Ins 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

We are celebrating our 20th Annual Ice Fishing Derby. Thank you to everyone who has helped

support our fishing classic over these years.

Remember that we have a one fish per category per ticket rule. You can look at the success it had

by noticing all the different names in our fish categories. It spreads the prizes out more evenly.

Please take the time to read our flyer for our minimum lengths required before bringing in

your fish. Our lengths are much larger than state requirements.

The children's division will be under the rule of only one fish per category per ticket. This will also

help disperse the trophies out to more children. In the children's division we are going to use the

state minimum lengths to assure our awarding all the trophies and McDonald's gift certificates. The

children will still have to meet the derby minimum lengths required to compete in the adult division.

For example, the state requires a 12" bass length for a keeper, while we have a 19" minimum for

our derby lengths. This will allow our young angler who catches a 15" bass to compete for the trophy

division, but it doesn't have the minimum for our derby. If a child brings in a 19" bass, then they

would also have a chance for the leader board prize money. The children's derby has a 3:00 p.m.

closing to free up some time for the 4:00 p.m. closing of the derby.

THERE WILL BE FOOD AVAILABLE AT THE BOAT RAMP THIS YEAR

The Armand Flamand Calico Bass Memorial Award is still part of our prize money this year. To be

eligibfe, you must be part of the final leader board winners in the calico bass division. These names

will be put in a hat with one lucky winner of $250.

CHANGES THIS YEAR:

Th.is year's winners will be posted on our website (www.brookfieldslionsclub.org). look for

it on our flyer. If you don't have access to a computer, the winners will be sent to our store vendor

locations along with being published in the Worcester Telegram. There will be a 2nd weigh station

located at Webster Lake town beach. The fish can be weighed right there and the information will

be phoned in to derby headquarters. There will be many benefits to this, including the ability to

release fish back into their own waters and taking strain off the derby headquarters location at the

end of the day to get all the fish recorded, etc. One thing to keep in mind is that these scales that

weigh the fish are state certified each year to guarantee all weights are precise. Weigh in times

at Webster lake will be 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This will allow our crew time to head back

to Quaboag Pond for the end of derby.

At 4:00 p.m., last call will be made for the final weigh-ins and tickets will be handed out to

those in line. Anyone in line after last call without a ticket will not be allowed to weigh in

their fish.

We have also expanded into some new locations for ticket purchases. Please help support these

stores in purchasing your bait, equipment, etc. They are a tremendous help in the sale of tickets.

Check out our new locations in our flyer. This year's raffle will have the 8" jiffy stealth auger,

a trolling motor, tilts and basket. Last year's raffle went well and I am trying to build these

prizes from year to year.

THE CELL PHONE HOTLINE IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR THE DERBY

LEADER BOARD WEIGHTS. IT'S A RECORDED MESSAGE ONLY

AND WILL BE UPDATED EVERY HOUR

The derby has a postponement date this year. t n the event of no ice for January 31,

it will be postponed to February 28. We will decide by Thursday, January 29 at

6:00 p.m. The postponement and cell numbers are listed below. If there is still no

ice by February 28, we would then cancel the derby for the year.

WE WILL DRAW THE 5 MINUTe DRAWING PRIZES ONLY AT

THE BOAT RAMP ON FEBRUARY 28, IN THE EVENT OF

DERBY CANCELLATION

This derby is a large undertaking by our club. Hundreds of hours are spent each year along with a

heavy financial commitment by our club with no guarantee of recouping our investment. Please

help support our event by purchasing a ticket ahead of time. The Brookfields' Lions Club depends

heavily on this fund raiser to be able to give back to our communities. Monies raised will be spent

helping many less fortunate who depend greatly on our contributions.

PLEASE REMEMBER to get your vehicles off the road, be courteous to our neighbors, pick up

after yourself and after someone else that may be less conscientious. Have a great day and we'll

see you at the boat ramp. Thank Youl
